Meet Senior Licensed Instructor Mr. Ken

Hello, my name is Kenneth McGowan and this is my journey starting out as a truck driver. My grandfather and father both were truck drivers. I became interested in trucking when riding with my father at early age. The urge to drive a big rig grew inside of me so my dad taught me how to drive a truck after I learn to drive a car. My father taught me that truck driving is like selling service to America.

 I obtained my Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in 1990 the same year I got married to my beautiful wife Towanda McGowan. I began driving over the road (OTR) with Donco. However, I decided to come back home and drive locally. In 1997, I gave my life to Christ. I had to go back OTR because driving locally wasn’t paying enough. The Lord started using me to minister the gospel to people I encountered while driving.

I was reading daily and seeking his guidance for instructions. In 2013, I accepted the call of God in my life. When I got back to driving over the road, God blessed me by allowing for the purchase of a new truck.  As an Owner Operator, I decided I wanted more trucks so I could be a blessing to other people that wanted to be OTR drivers.  I decided to start a partnership, eventually owning a trucking company. I learned that on this journey of trucking I wanted to teach other people how to obtain their CDL.  

As a result, we shut down our trucking company and God blessed me by coming to Transenergy CDL Academy as the head CDL Driving Instructor.  I love the owners Mrs. Narria Philpott and Shane Philpott.  They are a blessing in my life, and they have allowed me to use God as a vessel to instruct the students who come through the program. I teach with passion, faith and most importantly I teach with love. I teach students they can become a company driver, OTR driver, owner operator or a business owner.  At Transenergy CLD Academy we teach you to obtain your class A CDL however it’s up to you what you decide to do with it. The sky is the limit.
